How We Review Products
How we choose products, where our information comes from, and which products we have used ourselves.
Our Editorial Principles
Every review on TravelGiftList follows these core principles to ensure you get honest, useful recommendations.
Research, Not Lab Tests
We don't run a lab or test products. Picks are based on manufacturer specs, the professional reviews we name, and patterns in owner reviews.
No Sponsored Content
We never accept payment for reviews or favorable placement. Affiliate commissions don't influence our recommendations.
One Accountable Editor
Every guide is written or edited by Taro Schenker, a former music tour manager, so one named person answers for every pick.
Cited Sources
We check manufacturer specs, read owner reviews for recurring praise and complaints, and name the professional reviews we draw on.
Regular Updates
Prices come from Amazon and refresh twice a day. Picks are updated when products change or better options appear.
Clear About Hands-On Use
We only say a product has been used on the road when Taro uses it himself. Today that is three products, listed below.
Our Review Process
1. Research & Selection
We start with the products travelers buy and rate most in each category. We look at Amazon sales rankings, owner reviews, and professional recommendations to decide which products to cover.
2. Specs and Reviews
We compare manufacturer specifications such as size, weight, capacity, ports, and warranty, then read professional reviews and owner reviews. We do not lab-test products, and we don't claim a product has been used on a trip unless Taro has used it.
3. Cross-Checking
We check manufacturer claims against professional reviews and owner reviews, and look for complaints that come up again and again. Where a page relies on a specific review, it names the source.
4. Taro's Own Gear
Taro spent ten years as a music tour manager, living out of bags and carry-ons. Of the products on this site, he uses three on his own trips: the Trtl Pillow Plus, the EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter, and Eagle Creek Pack-It cubes. When a page mentions his own use, it means one of these.
5. Writing & Editing
Reviews are written or edited by Taro Schenker and checked for accuracy, clarity, and balance. We include both pros and cons for every product.
6. Ongoing Updates
Prices come from Amazon and refresh twice a day. We update our recommendations when products change or better alternatives become available.
